WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Distilled Spirits Council today announced its tour of the American Whiskey Trail ® September 28-October 2nd. The tour will take journalists on an educational journey to explore the cultural heritage of distilling in America through visits to legendary Kentucky and Tennessee distilleries that are open to the public. Stops on the tour include Jack Daniel’s, Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve, and George Dickel. Participating reporters at each stop will be hosted by renowned master distillers who will share the history and flavor nuances of their world famous brands. The tour will kick-off at a historic and festive celebration at the George Washington Distillery at Mount Vernon, VA where the nation’s Founding Father ran the largest whiskey distillery in 18th century America. At the event master distillers from around the globe will handcraft authentic colonial style rum in an 18th century pot still over an open flame. “Visiting these historical distilleries all nestled in the Southern countryside, gives media the heritage and taste of American spirits and some classic southern hospitality,” said Frank Coleman, Senior Vice President at the Distilled Spirits Council. This tour provides a tremendous opportunity for history, business, travel, food and beverage writers to experience this first hand.
