HARRISBURG, PA – The Distilled Spirits Council today commended the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) for reconsidering the proposed bottle handling fee increase on wine and spirits by instituting a moratorium until June 30, 2011.
“This is good government at its transparent best,” said Dr. Peter Cressy, CEO of the Distilled Spirits Council. “The PLCB Board and Chairman P.J. Stapleton are to be commended for their willingness to provide the incoming Corbett Administration and the General Assembly the opportunity to fully review business practices and to work together to modernize the liquor control system.”
Cressy further noted that the PLCB had been open and receptive to the concerns of the Pennsylvania hospitality industry. “The Distilled Spirits Council and its member companies welcome the invitation of the PLCB to partner in bringing best-practice modernization to the citizens of the Commonwealth,” Cressy added.
Background: The original PLCB proposal would have effectively raised the handling fee for all wine and distilled spirits products sold in the Commonwealth by nearly $1.00 per bottle.
