In advance of the holiday season, the Distilled Spirits Council and the National Association of Broadcasters are distributing a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) about responsible drinking to local television stations around the country.

A broadcast quality version of the PSA also can be accessed by local television stations through the National Association of Broadcasters at: https://psa.nab.org/view/#/campaign/distilled-spirits-council/tv-psas/

“The holiday season is a time to celebrate good friends and good cheer, as well as a time for good judgment,” said Distilled Spirits Council President & CEO Kraig R. Naasz.  “Enjoying a festive cocktail in moderation can be a pleasurable part of joyful, holiday celebrations.”

According to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans, moderate alcohol consumption is up to one drink per day for women and up to 2 drinks per day for men.  The Guidelines define a drink-equivalent as 12 fluid ounces of regular beer (5 percent alcohol), 5 fluid ounces of wine (12 percent alcohol) and 1.5 fluid ounces of 80 proof distilled spirits (40 percent alcohol).  One drink contains 0.6 fluid ounces of alcohol.

“As the peak holiday season gets underway, we want to encourage adults who choose to raise a glass of cheer to do so responsibly and in moderation,” said Naasz.

The “Drink in Moderation” PSA directs consumers to www.DrinkInModeration.org, where consumers can find information from the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americanson moderate drinking as well as tips for responsible entertaining.
