WASHINGTON, DC (July 13, 2021) – Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) and Responsbility.org today announced William Grant & Sons has joined as the newest member of both organizations. The 134-year-old independent, family-owned spirits company’s decision to engage with DISCUS and Responsbility.org serves as a commitment to drive the future of a modernized and fair marketplace for distilled spirits and underscores its intention to advance alcohol responsibility in America.
“We are honored to have William Grant & Sons join a growing list of distilled spirits companies uniting in support of an agenda promoting alcohol responsibility and more equitable treatment of distilled spirits in the policy area,” said Chris Swonger, president and CEO of Distilled Spirits Council of the United States and Responsibility.org. “The U.S. marketplace is rapidly evolving, and we appreciate William Grant & Sons’ engagement with DISCUS in our efforts to meet consumer expectations.”
“We also are grateful for William Grant & Sons’ leadership in supporting Responsibility.org’s vitally important mission to eliminate underage drinking, impaired driving and promote responsible consumption,” said Swonger. “They are joining at an exciting time as we prepare to launch critical programs like the National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving and We Don’t Serve Teens campaign in partnership with the Federal Trade Commission in the coming months.”
Established in 1887 in Dufftown, Scotland, William Grant & Sons is a family-owned company with a network of production sites across the globe — including in the United States.
“As leaders in the U.S. spirits industry, we look forward to taking a more active role in shaping alcohol policy in the United States, as well as adding our support behind critical programs to advance alcohol responsibility in communities across the country,” said Paul Basford, President and Managing Director, U.S., William Grant & Sons.
“We look forward to collaborating with the great teams and member companies at both DISCUS and Responsibliity.org, as well as encouraging international partnerships to help further the crucial missions of both organizations.”
