Under emergency legislation passed today in the House, restaurants would temporarily be permitted to sell to-go cocktails in an effort to combat the negative impacts of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry.

“The hospitality industry has been one of the hardest hit during COVID-19,” said David Wojnar, vice president of state government relations at the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States. “Allowing restaurants to sell to-go cocktails will help alleviate some of the negative impacts for these businesses and increase convenience for consumers. We applaud the House for using creative solutions to protect public health while supporting North Carolina’s businesses.”

Currently, 21 states plus the District of Columbia have allowed the sale of to-go cocktails. The measure, which passed as part of HB 1043, now moves to the Senate.
