Kansas Governor Laura Kelly today signed SB14 which includes allowing cocktails to-go from restaurants and bars until March 31, 2021.

“With the extension of cocktails to-go, Kansas hospitality businesses will continue to have a vital economic lifeline during the pandemic,” said Kristi Brown, Distilled Spirits Council of the United States Senior Director of State Government Relations. “Kansas bars and restaurants have been some of the hardest hit during COVID-19, and cocktails to-go have allowed many of them to survive. We thank Governor Kelly for extending cocktails to-go and for supporting local businesses as they struggle to cope with the harsh economic impacts of the pandemic.”

Background:

Currently, more than 30 states plus the District of Columbia are allowing restaurants and/or bars to sell cocktails to-go, bottled spirits to-go or both. Iowa and Ohio have both made cocktails to-go permanent, and other states, including Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and the District of Columbia, are considering doing the same.

The distilled spirits industry is committed to responsibility and encourages moderation for adults who choose to drink alcohol. Cocktails to-go are intended for home consumption. Laws governing alcohol consumption must always be observed.
