Hand Sanitizer: Keep Out of Reach of Children

More than 800 distilled spirits producers in the United States are making hand sanitizer to address the shortage of this critical product during COVID-19. On behalf of our member companies and the distilled spirits industry, we want to do our part to raise awareness with a public education campaign providing a reminder that hand sanitizers containing alcohol should be kept out of reach of children.

For context, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expressed concern about children inadvertently consuming hand sanitizer as the demand for this product increases in response to COVID-19. For more information, see the FDA’s webpage on safely using hand sanitizer and DISCUS’ Hand Sanitizer Guidance document.

While this concern is shared by all companies making hand sanitizers, we want to help share a proactive prevention message as we do our part to keep our communities safe.

We have formulated social media images that you can download for use by clicking the images below, and we encourage all distillers who are producing hand sanitizer to share on their social media channels and with their customers to remind parents and adults to keep hand sanitizer away from children.

DISCUS and the entire distilled spirits industry are committed to producing a product that is critical to flattening the curve and want to keep hand sanitizer out of the hands of children.
