First Time in Austria For Many Featured U.S. Distillers, Brands
Vienna, Austria – The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States will participate in the Falstaff Spirits Gala at the Hofburg Palace on Saturday, November 9, 1:00-7:00 PM, and feature over 30 American Whiskeys and other brands of premium distilled spirits–many for the first time in the Austrian market–from small and large distillers from 15 states across America.
The American Spirits pavilion at the tasting event in the historic Hofburg Palace, cosponsored by the Council and the United States Department of Agriculture, is an export promotion designed to showcase super premium American Whiskeys and other distilled spirits products in one of Europe’s wealthiest and most prestigious markets.
Between 2010 and 2012, U.S. distilled spirits exports to Austria, particularly Bourbons and Tennessee Whiskeys, have experienced steady growth in supplier sales, rising 22% from $5.8 million to $7.1 million. Further, year-to-date exports through August, 2013 show a robust 10.6% growth compared to the same period in 2012.
“These solid growth trends show that the market for U.S. distilled spirits, particularly whiskeys, has been very strong in Austria over the last several years,” said Distilled Spirits Council Senior Vice President Frank Coleman. “The latest data suggest that with some education and outreach this robust growth can continue and even accelerate,”
He added, “It is worth noting Austria is a cultural opinion leader and trendsetter for emerging markets in the Balkans and to the East, thus this important event provides a beneficial echo effect for our industry marketing efforts.
“Premium Bourbons, Tennessee Whiskeys and other U.S. distilled spirits are experiencing significant growth in global markets because of their authentic heritage, their distinctive flavors, and their versatility in cocktails, and we are excited to bring these products to new audiences in Austria,” Coleman concluded.
