WASHINGTON —The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) and Responsibility.org today announced Abeer Naqvi as chief people officer for both organizations.

In this role, Naqvi will serve on the senior leadership team and oversee all facets of human resources management and implement strategies to develop and promote best practices in operations, organizational development, and talent management and acquisition.

Naqvi brings to DISCUS more than 14 years of experience in human resources. Most recently, Naqvi served as head of human resources for Washington Capital Partners, a private lending company, where she served on the leadership team and was responsible for all human resources functions including professional staff management, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, and employee engagement programs.

Prior to that position, Naqvi worked at Spok, a global leader in healthcare communications, as a senior human resources manager and co-chairman of the Diversity and Inclusion Council. In this role, she created and implemented human resources policies and procedures that covered employee relations, engagement, onboarding, training and compliance.

Earlier in her career, Naqvi held human resources positions at businesses related to healthcare, childcare and retail, including Amazon and Macy’s.

Naqvi holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in human resources management from the University of Maryland and is a Society for Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional.
