Mississippi is one of only six states that still prohibits the retail sale of spirits on Sundays

Today, the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) applauded the Mississippi House for passing HB 329, a bill to allow seven-day spirits sales in the state. The measure now heads to the Senate for consideration.

“Mississippians could soon enjoy the added convenience of being able to pick up their favorite spirits products any day of the week,” said Andy Deloney, DISCUS senior vice president and head of state public policy. “Allowing seven-day spirits sales for distilled spirits just makes sense as most consumers do their shopping on the weekends. This new law will support local businesses as well as Mississippi consumers. We applaud the House for moving this measure forward and hope the Senate will do the same.”

HB 329 authorizes local liquor retailers stores to sell distilled spirits on Sundays if they choose to do so. Allowing seven-day spirits sales in Mississippi could increase ABC sales by between $12.2 million and $18.3 million annually. These increased sales would translate into additional revenues for Mississippi.

Mississippi is one of only six states in the country that prohibits the retail sale of distilled spirits on Sundays. Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah are the only remaining states that prohibit seven-day spirits sales.
