WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Distilled Spirits Council today announced it has named veteran Washington, D.C. finance executive Charles (Chuck) Wellard, CAE, as senior vice president of finance & administration.

Wellard most recently served as the senior vice president of operations for the American Bakers Association and assistant secretary and treasurer for the International Baking Industry Exposition. Prior to ABA, Wellard served in financial leadership roles at the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington and the National Children’s Center.

“With more than two decades of finance experience in Washington D.C., we are excited to bring Chuck aboard as we modernize the business functions of the association,” said Distilled Spirits Council Interim CEO Clarkson Hine.

“I’m excited to join the Distilled Spirits Council, the leading voice for a vibrant industry in a dynamic environment,” Wellard said.  “The Council is one of the most prestigious national associations in Washington and is widely recognized as a leader in advocacy at the state, federal and international levels. I’m also proud to join an organization that strongly supports responsibility and moderation.”

Wellard succeeds Jean Gooding, who is retiring after a distinguished 20-year career at the Council.

A native of Wayne, Pa., Wellard is a graduate of Ursinus College with a B.A. Cum Laude in Economics and University of Maryland with an M.B.A. Cum Laude in Accounting and Finance. He worked his way through grad school as a bartender.
