Call to Action to Distillers to Advocate for FET Reduction

The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) today launched the “Spirits United CBMTRA Advocacy Toolkit” designed to empower distillers to advocate and urge Congress to pass the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act (CBMTRA, H.R. 1175/S. 362).

The CBMTRA Advocacy Toolkit includes step by step instructions and turn-key, pre-drafted materials to help distillers in the United States urge their members of Congress to #StopCraftTaxIncreases. If Congress does not pass CBMTRA by year’s end, craft distillers will face a 400 percent tax increase in 2021.

“Distillers are facing an enormous amount of uncertainty caused by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis,” said Chris Swonger, DISCUS President & CEO. “Uncertainty about federal excise tax (FET) rates shouldn’t add to their burden. We are doing everything we can to urge Congress to pass CBMTRA as soon as possible. We hope this toolkit serves as a useful guide for distillers looking to engage and activate their employees, consumers and suppliers on this important issue.”

Distillers who complete all parts of the toolkit will be entered in a drawing to win a free registration to the DISCUS 2021 Annual Conference in Austin, Texas.
