The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (Distilled Spirits Council) today announced that it is conducting an export promotion in Sydney, Australia June 14, 18, and 19 to showcase some of the finest American distilled spirits products in one of its most important export markets.

The promotions, supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, feature an American Spirits Pavilion at the Drinks Industry Show June 18 and 19, as well as an exclusive tasting of fine American Whiskeys and a cocktail demonstration to highlight the mixability and versatility of American Whiskey for national and local media June 14. Kurtis Bosely, an internationally-recognized Australian mixologist and winner of the 2016 top mixologist in Sydney award, will lead the cocktail demonstration and create a specialty cocktail for the media event June 14.

“American spirits, and in particular American whiskeys, such as Bourbon, Tennessee Whiskey and American Rye Whiskey, are in demand around the world, including Australia,” said Distilled Spirits Council Director of International Affairs Robert Maron. “We are excited to showcase in Sydney a wide array of products from small, medium, and large American distillers, some of which are not yet available in Australia.  With some of the most iconic spirits in the world, as well as a range of innovative new and craft products, American distillers are truly raising the bar.

“American whiskey is enjoying a boom around the world, and particularly in Australia, due to its renewed interest in cocktail culture. Our goal is to educate the beverage trade and media in the Australia on emerging trends in the United States and on the benefits of including American Whiskeys in their cocktail programs,” Maron concluded.

In 2017, U.S. spirits exports to Australia were valued at $127 million, up 12 percent as compared with 2016, ranking Australia as the third largest export market globally for U.S. distilled spirits; American Whiskeys accounted for approximately 80 percent of the total.

The participating distillers include: Beam Suntory; Brown-Forman; Corsair Distillery; House Spirits; MGP Ingredients; and Red Eye Louie’s.
