Public Policy Conference

September 15 – 16, 2020

DISCUS and the American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA) hosted our annual Public Policy Conference virtually! The conference had over 325 registered participants from 46 states.

Participants engaged with senior leadership at the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), they heard from Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) on the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act (S. 362/H.R. 1175), and received issue briefings on the “state of the states” and federal policy issues.

We hosted over 150 virtual meetings on Capitol Hill urging Congress to enact the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act (S. 362/H.R. 1175), to work with the Administration to de-escalate trade tensions with the European Union and United Kingdom and seek the removal of tariffs on distilled spirits, and to review concerns with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services about the lack of scientific evidence behind the proposed modification to the definition of moderate drinking for men in the U.S. Dietary Guidelines.

Although we wish we would have been able to toast in person, the final virtual toast with industry luminaries Peggy Noe Stevens, Bill Thomas, and Deborah Brenner offered a chance to “see” each other and raise a glass.

Special thank you to conference sponsors FIVE X 5 Solutions, Wine & Spirits Shippers Association, ByQuest, and Glencairn.
